Exploring AutoCAD Raster Design 2017 is a comprehensive textbook that has been written to cater to the needs of the students and the professionals who are involved in GIS profession. AutoCAD Raster Design has interoperability with major design and data conversion software packages. This feature allows the Raster Design users to access CAD and GIS data from various sources to perform raster to vector conversion. In AutoCAD Raster Design, you can connect a raster dataset at the software platform and georeference it with ease. In this textbook, complex vectorization processes have been illustrated through easy-to-understand flow diagrams. Also, various processes such as manipulating and managing old CAD data and displaying spatial data have been covered in this textbook. The book also introduces users to the concepts of industry model database for managing spatial data. The simple and lucid language used in this textbook makes it a ready reference for both the beginners and the intermediate users.

Along with the basic tools, AutoCAD Raster Design provides enhanced tools for image management. These image management tools enable the user to work with raster data of variant file formats, such as Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and multispectral satellite images. AutoCAD Raster design also provides rubbersheeting and transformation tools for georeferencing and transforming coordinate system of the raster images.

Using the vectorization tools in AutoCAD Raster design, you can convert the raster data into vector. AutoCAD Raster Design uses SmartCorrect Settings option to increase the precision with which the vectors are created. These tools provide advance features such as dynamic dimensioning and grip editing. While converting data from raster to vector, the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature of AutoCAD Raster design, identifies the text in the raster and converts it into vector. This eliminates the need of retyping the text thereby saving considerable amount of time and effort. The OCR feature of AutoCAD Raster design can identify text that is hand written or machine typed and is optimized for images with a resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch).

The Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) Industry is another stream of professionals that work with huge volumes of raster data. This industry is primarily involved in the design, construction and maintenance (operation) of various infrastructure projects. The design and construction of engineering projects such as roads, dams, and canals are governed by topographical characteristics of the terrain. As a result, the study of the topography is the first step towards designing these types of infrastructure projects.

AutoCAD Raster Design not only supports the raster data in Digital Elevation Model (DEM) format but using it you can analyze the DEM data to study the slope, aspect and elevation of the terrain. This feature of AutoCAD Raster Design is also useful for conducting watershed studies, land suitability analysis, design, and management for a region. Figure 1-6 shows a Digital Elevation Model of a region.

Now-a-days, engineers use computers for planning and designing of almost every engineering system. For calculating the design parameters using computer, engineers are required to input data to the computer. Almost all designing software packages use input data in vector format. As a result, for the task of modifying the existing design, you are required to convert the existing paper drawings into vector data format. AutoCAD Raster Design provides a set of vectorization tools for easy and efficient conversion of the raster data to vector.

Most CAD and graphics design software today are only compatible with vector images and cannot open, read, or modify raster images. However, raster images are the most ubiquitous image format. While in the world of graphics design, CAD, CAM, and CNC, vector images are more prominent and useful, there are times when a designer is required to work with both vector and raster images. This is where problems arise. Take, for example; you have a raster JPG image of a building plan that you need to edit on CAD software. Since such software cannot edit such images, you have to first painstakingly redesign the building plan from scratch on CAD software, before you can edit it. Thankfully, you do not have to go through this tedious process, thanks to a process known as raster to vector conversion.

Also known as vectorization, raster to vector conversion is the process of converting raster images to vector images. This conversion is carried out using specialized software, developed specifically for the purpose. While there are many commercial and even free raster to vector conversion software available today, there are a few that tower above the rest. One such software is AutoCAD Raster Design. This software is capable of satisfactorily carrying out vectorization. However, due to some factors such as limitations in the functionality of AutoCAD Raster Design, many users with vectorization needs are in search of better alternatives. We present to you Scan2CAD, the best, and as testified by numerous users, a superior alternative to AutoCAD Raster Design.

These features allow you to execute standard AutoCAD commands on raster designs and primitives, even without conversion. You can easily erase raster arcs, circles, lines, and images using raster entity manipulation.

The primary features of Scan2CAD, the raster to vector conversion tools automatically convert your raster designs to CAD/CAM vector format, saving you countless hours of manual tracing. To make the conversion process even smoother, Scan2CAD allows you to select your image type from many pre-programmed image types, as different types of images require different vectorization settings. An architectural image, for example, comprises of lines and angles, while a contour map comprises of curves. Other conversion features found in Scan2CAD are as follows.

Batch conversion features allow you to convert thousands of images or designs in just a few clicks. This is the perfect solution for users who have numerous images that all require the same conversion settings or raster effects. All you need to do is define your settings, select the input folder, create or select an output folder for the converted images, and relax! Scan2CAD will take care of the rest.

AutoCAD Raster Design 2019 x64 is a really helpful and highly effective utility that has been devoted to the creation of the raster graphics and allows you to carry out the conversions, design enhancements and OCR. Creation of the three-d designs and modifying them will not be a simple activity and it requires some specialised utilities in addition to expertise. There are many instruments which can be utilized for undertaking this activity and AutoCAD Raster Design 2019 x64 is one in every of them. You too can obtain AutoCAD Map 3D 2018.

Hi, once Raster design works with landsat images, it would be great this software be able to calculate NDVI, because it has alot of limitation comparing to other softwares that work with raster images, arcgis, QGIS and others, the NDVI calculations could be important for agriculture, invornment and so on.

Ideal for older versions of AutoCAD programs without built-in PDF support (pre-AutoCAD 2017). PDFin is ideal for converting CAD drawings, floor plans, network diagrams, and organization charts. It extracts editable CAD entities, layers, objects, and text from any computer-generated PDF file, while images from scanned PDF files are placed on a non-editable tracing layer. PDFin is not designed to vectorize scanned drawings.

Comment from the publisher: We try to be clear that PDFin is not designed to convert scanned drawings. PDFin extracts editable drawings from data-rich vector PDF files - basically any file created on a computer (save, print-to-file, export, etc). Scanned drawings are raster PDF files with no data to extract. For scanned drawings, PDFin produces an AutoCAD IMAGE object with a reference to the scanned TIFF or JPEG image. This IMAGE object can't be edited in AutoCAD but can be useful as a tracing layer or underlay. It's easy to tell the difference between raster and vector PDF files. Just open the PDF file in Acrobat Reader and magnify to >800%. If the drawing looks crisp and clear, it's a vector PDF file and PDFin will do a great job for you. If it looks grainy, jagged, dirty or noisy, it's a raster PDF and must be redrawn or traced. If you are not sure, send us a test file. Hope this helps!
